How the machine works
What happens inside our vending machine in the few seconds between paying and picking up your pack. It's drawn to the real machine: 1.26 m wide, 1.81 m tall, with 52 spiral coils on six trays.

The touchscreen can't move anything itself. It sends a short coded message to the drive board inside the cabinet: turn slot 18.
Every slot is a spiral coil with one pack standing in each turn. One full turn moves every pack forward a place, and the front one goes over the edge.
The pack drops down behind the glass and through the beams of a light curtain into the pickup area. Breaking those beams is how the machine knows your pack really fell.
The drive board tells the screen the pack was delivered, and the screen says so.
Reach in through the COLLECT flap at the bottom and take your pack.
